Volunteering in Buxton & High Peak

Volunteer Centre Buxton was established in 1982 to provide volunteering opportunities in Derbyshire for people of all ages and backgrounds.

People can come for advice, have 1:1 interviews and receive help on a wide variety of voluntary work, tailored to the individual.

We hold details on all types of local and national voluntary work. We also offer a range of services to the local community in which volunteers participate and support organisations from the voluntary, community and public sectors.

Services We Provide

Volunteering

If you want to volunteer in Buxton, any part of the High Peak or anywhere in Derbyshire, our role is to provide advice and information about the wide range of voluntary work opportunities.

Volunteer Centre Buxton will undertake a basic assessment and arrange introductions to those organisations in need of volunteer help where the interests of a particular volunteer are best suited.

Volunteer Transport Scheme
Tilly

Covering over 530 square miles of some of the most rugged and remote areas of the High Peak, our volunteer drivers help to provide transport for older people (over 65), disabled people and people with learning difficulties which would prevent them from using public transport.

Volunteer Centre Buxton provide transport to take individuals and groups to medical appointments, meetings, social outings and to any mainland UK holiday destination.

Disabled Children's Service

The Disabled Children's Service provides support for children with additional needs, aged 0-25 and their families in the High Peak area.

We also run an after-school club, support local youth clubs and arrange activities during the school holidays.

Home Support

The Home Support Service provides assistance with personal care and gives practical support to older and disabled people and people with learning difficulties in their own home from 25 years onwards.

Our service is registered with CSCI (Commission for Social Care Inspection).

Our service is funded by Social Services and the Primary Care Trust.

Readycall Home Maintenance

Readycall Home Maintenance provides maintenance and gardening services in particular to disabled and older people though its services are open to everyone. It provides its own tools and equipment and no job is too small.

Rates are competitive and a good quality of service is provided by local trusted traders who've been police checked.

Handyvan Service

The Handyvan Service operates in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales areas. The scheme provides free Home Fire & Security checks to ensure vulnerable people can remain in their homes while staying safe and secure.

As well as fitting safety equipment the scheme will carry out up to 2 hours of small practical tasks in the home such as putting up shelves and replacing light bulbs. The service will make 2 free visits a year.
